Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Scrappers, 5-2
Game 5 was big. So was Karl Morgan.

In leading Mahoning Valley to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters at Eastwood Field today, the Mahoning Valley starter rose to the occasion, tossing 6 good innings. Morgan threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball as the Scrappers defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Justin Stevenson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Vermont pitcher Bob Love, he hit a first pitch splitter for a 2-run triple. It was a game-changer, putting Mahoning Valley on top, 4-2.

"Every team in baseball loses," Lake Monsters manager Chris Arndt said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Centennial Field in Burlington.
