This is the time of the baseball season when grown men are reduced to tears. This year, the Delmarva Shorebirds were shedding tears of joy and the Asheville Tourists those of sorrow.

The Shorebirds topped the Tourists today 5-4 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium and locked up their 13th South Atlantic League Round 2 championship, winning the series 4-2.

"To come this far and leave empty-handed is not easy," said Asheville manager Jarrod Dryman.

The Shorebirds finished the regular season in the Northern Division with a 84-54 record, ending up in first place in the division standings.
