Peoria Advances to Round 2
|
Midwest League fans were certainly not disappointed with this Midwest League Round 1.
The two teams were evenly matched and the series went to the final game, with the Peoria Chiefs prevailing over the Burlington Bees to advance to the Round 2.
Peoria won the final game by a score of 2-1 at Dozer Park and that sealed the series 3-2.
"Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said third baseman Tim Zavala, who earned MVP honors.
For the series, Zavala hit .450 with a .476 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 3 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Peoria Chiefs will play against the Great Lakes Loons in the next round. Great Lakes won their series against the West Michigan Whitecaps 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
