The 24-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Kannapolis Intimidators worries.

Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Eric Nowicki seemed like a risky move for the Intimidators, but it was one of the few things that went right at Appalachian Power Park. Nowicki tossed 7 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Kannapolis dropped a 2-0 decision. With the win, West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 Round 1.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Power had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when right fielder Cameron McMillan hit a 2-run single. The single came off Eric Nowicki and made the score 2-0, Power. McMillan was 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI.

"It's always fun to see the other guys getting frustrated, but the series isn't over and we've got to make sure to keep them on their heels," West Virginia manager Jose Minera said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston.
