Augusta Tops Asheville, 7-6, Claims 2-1 Series Lead
The Augusta GreenJackets moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the visiting Asheville Tourists at Lake Olmstead Stadium by a score of 7-6. GreenJackets second baseman Frank Vargas did some major damage. He went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win gives the GreenJackets a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Chris Taylor hit a run-scoring double off Jan Stead in the bottom of the seventh, which put the GreenJackets in front, 4-3. In addition to the double, Taylor had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.

"We're one game closer to our goal," Augusta manager Bill Mercado said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta.
