The Lynchburg Hillcats moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the Frederick Keys on the road at Harry Grove Stadium by a score of 4-1. Hillcats right-hander Ryan DiPonio had a strong outing. He threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Hillcats a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Lynchburg used a well-timed hit by Ben LaPorte to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Hillcats ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We haven't stopped playing," Frederick manager Jeremy Smejkal said. "We didn't get this far to give up."

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, September 15th , 2108 at Ed Smith Stadium in Lynchburg.
