Salem Red Sox manager Arturo Cobian knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 23-year-old left-hander Zaccaria Archibugi silenced the host Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark. The Red Sox shut out the Dash by a final score of 4-0, to give the Red Sox a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Archibugi gave Salem a solid start. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 7.2 innings.

"Zaccaria really held it together well," said Salem manager Arturo Cobian.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
