Orem shortstop Steve Slotnick couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Round 1.

"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Slotnick moments after his club eliminated the Washington (Rk+) Nationals to advance to the Round 2.

Orem won the final game by a score of 5-0 at Brent Brown Ballpark and took the series 3-1.

"We won the series and that's the main thing," Slotnick said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."

For the series, Slotnick hit .353 with a .353 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.

"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Washington (Rk+) manager Jordan Davey.

The Orem Owlz will play against the Ogden Raptors in the next round. Ogden won their series against the Cleveland (Rk+) Guardians 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
