Road Win Lifts San Jose to 2-1 Lead in R2
|
The bats were silent for much of the day at San Manuel Stadium. But San Jose third baseman Kevin Shaffer conjured up just enough offense to carry the Giants past the Inland Empire 66ers, 3-1. In a game dominated by the pitching staffs, Shaffer went 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Giants now lead 2-1 in the best-of-7 series.
San Jose left fielder Luis Cano helped the Giants go up, 2-1, in the top of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Cano hit a run-scoring single off Inland Empire pitcher Chris Watt.
"We're feeling good about this," said Giants manager Damian Rivera. "We have got an advantage now and we just need to keep the pressure on."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino.
