In a pivotal Game 5, the State College Spikes were hoping for a big game from starter Mario Morales. They got one.

The right-hander shut out the Aberdeen Ironbirds, proving to be the difference-maker as he led his club to a 3-0 victory. The Spikes took the 3-0 win over the Aberdeen Ironbirds to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Morales, who was born in Quincy, Illinois, threw 128 pitches over 8.2 innings, while allowing no runs.

"From the first pitch, Mario was ready to rock and roll," said State College manager Paul Thomas.

Game 6 is scheduled for Sunday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.
