The Tacoma Rainiers started the Round 1 in style, winning on the road against the Albuquerque Isotopes at Isotopes Park by a score of 6-5 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Rainiers shortstop Jose Chavez excelled. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

Sean Carpenter came through with a big-time hit for Tacoma. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We ground out the win," said Chavez. "That's all that matters."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque.
