It's Over! Vermont Defeats Aberdeen
|
With a 3-2 win over the Aberdeen Ironbirds tonight at Ripken Stadium, the Vermont Lake Monsters wrapped up their 6th title in team history.
Vermont left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Lake Monsters celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Vermont manager Dana Joseph. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as Vermont celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.
"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship Vermont Lake Monsters," the mayor said.
The champions completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Stedler Division and a 46-27 record.
