Almost There: Great Lakes On Cusp of Round 2 Triumph After 10-1 Win
The Great Lakes Loons got a strong performance from pitcher Mark Matthews, who stymied the visiting Peoria Chiefs en route to a win, 10-1, in Game 4 of the Round 2. The Chiefs could never get a bead on the left-handed Matthews, who threw 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The Loons now hold a 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.

The Chiefs had their hands full with Matthews, who overpowered Peoria hitters while racking up 11 strikeouts.

"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Great Lakes Loons (probably) 2111 Round 2 Champions'," Matthews told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dow Diamond in Midland.
