Rancho Cucamonga Pins 4-3 Loss on Modesto
Starter David Merchan was sensational for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in his team's 4-3 triumph over the Modesto Nuts in Game 2 of the Round 2. Merchan pitched well, but Rancho Cucamonga picked up the win to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Making an impact for Rancho Cucamonga was right fielder Matt Thomson. He drilled a 2-run triple off Tom Valko in the bottom of the second. For the game, Thomson was 2-5 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We put together a nice win," Thomson said.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
