Baysox Claim 5-4 Triumph
|
The Bowie Baysox and Binghamton Mets obliged fans looking for a good time.
Luis Ortiz, who is tied for 10th in the EL in innings pitched with 39.0, was locked in. The right-hander led the Bowie Baysox to a 5-4 win against the Binghamton Mets at Prince George's Stadium. Ortiz yielded 4 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 3-2. Ken Wilkerson picked up the save for Bowie, his 4th of the year.
Roy Baranick had a big 2-run home run for the Baysox in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Bowie leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Jake Stevens and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Baysox on top, 3-0.
"Fun game," said Baranick, "even when the outcome was in doubt."
With the win, Bowie climbs to 15-12.
