Braves Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
|
It went the distance, but the Rome Braves finally disposed of the Asheville Tourists 6-3 in the series clincher at State Mutual Stadium.
Winning the finale gave the Braves the series, 3-2. They will now advance to the Round 2.
The Most Valuable Player Award went to Rome left fielder A.J. Montez. He batted .444 in the series, collecting 2 RBIs and scoring 4 runs.
"A.J. deserves it," said Braves manager Tim Ernst. "He was the glue that held our club together."
The Rome Braves don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Delmarva Shorebirds - Lakewood BlueClaws series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
