Pittsburgh (GCL) Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
In a series that had a little bit of everything, the Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates have edged the Houston (GCL) Astros.

The two rival clubs went the distance in the tightly-contested Round 1, with a 4-3 win in the clincher being the difference for Pittsburgh (GCL) and giving them the ticket to the Round 2 with a 3-2 series triumph.

"We never stopped believing in ourselves. When push came to shove we were going to get it done," said Cliff Welten, who was named series MVP.

For the series, Welten hit .364 with a .417 on-base percentage. He had 5 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 8 runs.

The Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the New York N (GCL) Mets - Baltimore (GCL) Orioles series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
