Oakland (AZL) Wins to Cut Texas (AZL) Lead to 3-2
|
The Oakland (AZL) Athletics defeated the Texas (AZL) Rangers, 11-7 in Game 5 of the Round 2 today. Making an impact was first baseman Chance Weston, who went 1 for 2 with a double and 3 walks. He scored 4 times. The win narrows Oakland (AZL)'s deficit in the series to 3-2.
Pat Barnett was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Oakland (AZL). In the bottom of the fourth, with the teams deadlocked, 6-6, Barnett delivered for the Athletics. His run-scoring sacrifice fly put Oakland (AZL) on top, 7-6.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Oakland (AZL) manager Willie Espada said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Surprise Stadium. Slated to start are Brian Jordan for the Oakland (AZL) Athletics and Juan Dimas for the the Texas (AZL) Rangers.
