Avila, Pelicans Wallop Nationals in Game 3 of R2
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of third baseman Manny Avila, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans stopped the visiting Potomac Nationals, 8-1, in Game 3 of the Round 2 today. Avila hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Pelicans, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.
Ricardo Aguiar hit a 3-run home run off Vinny Guerrero in the bottom of the second, which put the Pelicans ahead, 3-0. In addition to the homer, Aguiar had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"Ever since we qualified for the playoffs, the guys have been razzing me about how I'm going to embarrass myself out there," the rookie Aguiar said with a smile. "I'm glad to prove them wrong, at least for a day."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark in Myrtle Beach. The scheduled starters for the game are Ryan Martinez for Potomac and Ken Henry for Myrtle Beach.
