Flying Squirrels Beat Thunder, 2-0
|
Richmond registered a win at The Diamond by beating the Trenton Thunder, 2-0. Pitcher Brent Fyffe was one reason why the Flying Squirrels triumphed. Fyffe got the win, improving to 4-3. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed no runs. Trenton's current losing streak has reached 4 games.
Ryan McClure had a big solo home run for the Flying Squirrels in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Richmond leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from Cesar Huizar, who is tied for 6th in the EL in strikeouts with 38, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Flying Squirrels on top, 2-0.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said McClure. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
