The Reading Fightin Phils defeated the Bowie Baysox, 7-1, in Eastern League action at Prince George's Stadium. Reading pitcher David Hayes had a standout performance. With the win, Reading raised its record to 25-14.

Hayes earned the win to move to 2-0. In his complete game performance, he allowed 1 run on 7 hits, striking out 10 and walking 1.
