Flying Squirrels Bag 3-2 Win
|
Starting pitcher Robert Valencia was a major factor in the 3-2 Richmond Flying Squirrels triumph over the Trenton Thunder. Valencia, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. The second-place Flying Squirrels improved to 22-18.
J.D. Wagner had a big solo home run for the Flying Squirrels in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Richmond leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a slider from Justin Harper, who is tied for 7th in the EL in innings pitched with 54.0, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 8th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 3-1.
"Fun game," said Wagner, "even when the outcome was in doubt."
