The Reading Fightin Phils could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Oscar Lopez into a win. Instead, the Portland Sea Dogs prevailed, 5-3. Lopez threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. Sid Burks earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record is now 2-0. The Sea Dogs now own a record of 25-23.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bob Lane? The 25-year old center fielder Lane stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Portland up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
