Braves Score Late, Top Knights, 8-4
|
The Gwinnett Braves withstood an impressive performance by Charlotte first baseman Randy Donahue to defeat the Knights, 8-4, at Coolray Field. Donahue was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Tony Pomares got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. The last-place Knights dropped to 16-21.
Brice Post was 2-4 with a double and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Gwinnett. The 28-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Antonio Lujan. It was his 9th RBI of the season.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Post told the Gwinnett Gazette. "But we take nothing for granted."
