Indianapolis pitcher David Needham had a large part in his team beating the Columbus Clippers, 5-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Needham got the win, improving to 3-5. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs. The save went to James Barbour, his 5th this season.
The Indians got a big at-bat from left fielder David Burks. For the game, Burks went 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Indianapolis a 1-0 lead.
Said losing manager Nick Lombardi: "Give the Indians credit. They played a better game than we did."
The victory puts Indianapolis at 17-25.
