Chiefs Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Tides, 4-2
|
The Norfolk Tides could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ben Blackwood into a win. Instead, the Syracuse Chiefs prevailed, 4-2. Blackwood threw 8.0 innings allowing 4 runs. Syracuse reliever Ryan Ward picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Ben Blackwood absorbed the loss. The Chiefs raised their record to 27-18.
Syracuse took a 4-2 lead on Håvard Nielsen's 2nd triple of the season. The bases-clearing triple, which Nielsen hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Norfolk pitcher Ben Blackwood visibly frustrated.
Nielsen attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
