SeaWolves Drop Mets, 6-4
|
The Erie SeaWolves defeated the Binghamton Mets, 6-4, in Eastern League action at Jerry Uht Park. Erie pitcher Jake Melton had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Melton, now 6-2. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Jason Harris closed the door for Erie, picking up his 10th save of the year.
The Mets had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the SeaWolves going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old third baseman Chris Grise came to the plate. Grise hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch changeup from Binghamton hurler Juan Linares. It was Grise's 4th home run of the year.
"Jake did a heck of a job," said Erie manager Frank Hennessy.
The Mets, now 16-36, have lost 5 in a row.
