Charlotte Drops Pawtucket in Pitchers' Duel
|
BB&T Stadium hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Charlotte Knights locked up a win at BB&T Stadium, knocking off the Pawtucket Red Sox, 2-1. On the mound for Charlotte was left-hander Ricky Marquez. He played a major role in the triumph. Mark Ayers recorded his 4th save for Charlotte.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Knights had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when first baseman Joey Simpson hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dave Izquierdo and made the score 2-0, Knights. Simpson was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk.
"Every loss stings," said Pawtucket manager David Larson. "This one is no exception."
The second-place Knights lifted their record to 26-21.
