IronPigs Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs used a great performance from 29-year old right-handed pitcher David Piedrahita to beat the Charlotte Knights, 1-0, at BB&T Stadium. Piedrahita, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Victor Gonzales locked down his 3rd save.
The IronPigs got a big at-bat from second baseman Carlos Ruiz. For the game, Ruiz was 1 for 5 with a home run. In the top of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Nick Zlomke.
With the win over Charlotte, the IronPigs improved to 28-28.
