Chiefs Edge IronPigs, 6-5
|
The Syracuse Chiefs downed the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 6-5, the largest share of the credit belonging to designated hitter Manny Alas. On the day, Alas was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk for the Chiefs. Syracuse now owns a record of 35-24.
Had Kyle Hoff not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Hoff hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Chiefs.
Syracuse manager Mark Holgate was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
