Columbus got a big-time effort from pitcher Tom Martin, but it wasn't enough to keep the Charlotte Knights from winning the game, 5-4. Martin threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 run for the losing team. Picking up the win was Chad Muha. He went 9.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. The right--hander struck out 11 and walked 3. The first-place Knights improved to 36-30.

Matt Bauer was 2 for 4 with 2 singles for Charlotte. With one out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Bauer had a clutch at-bat. Facing Columbus hurler John Wordell, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Charlotte manager Nick Zlomke.
