Columbus Beats Gwinnett in Extra Innings
|
Columbus starter Josh Pulver pitched well against the Gwinnett Braves at Coolray Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-0, in 10 innings. Columbus reliever Josh Pulver got the win, raising his record to 3-1. C.J. Kartman was tagged with the loss. The second-place Clippers now sit at 35-32.
Roberto Lima delivered a big hit for Columbus. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Clippers ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
During his postgame press conference, Clippers manager Nick Lombardi told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
