The Reno Aces overcame a fine performance by Sacramento second baseman Kenny Giancola to defeat the River Cats, 6-4, at Aces Ballpark. Giancola went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Joe Rutter, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 13 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Jim Unknown got credit for the save for Reno. It was his 1st of the year.

Reno grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Eric Lawrence delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 5-4 in favor of the Aces.

Lawrence told a Reno Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
