The Tacoma Rainiers picked up a win at Cheney Stadium, taking down the Sacramento River Cats, 5-4. Starting pitcher Scott Baker was a big reason why. The defeat makes Sacramento 2-3.

Matt Sparkman had a big 3-run home run for the Rainiers in the bottom of the third inning. With Tacoma leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Ron Courtois and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Rainiers on top, 4-0.

"Both teams played hard," said Tacoma manager John Conway.
