Chihuahuas Absorb 4-2 Loss at Chukchansi Park
|
The Fresno Grizzlies beat the El Paso Chihuahuas, 4-2, at Chukchansi Park. Fresno catcher Matt Jones, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2101 draft, collected 3 singles and 1 double with 2 runs batted in. Juan Mendez got the win, improving to 3-1. He held the Chihuahuas to 2 runs on 5 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Danny Torres closed it out for his 3rd save.
With Fresno leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Jones hit a slider from Jeff Nolte for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Grizzlies ahead, 3-0.
Said losing manager Matt Pace: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
The win moves Fresno to a record of 8-7.
