The Iowa Cubs and Omaha Storm Chasers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

The Iowa Cubs got a strong performance from pitcher Victor Gutierrez, who stymied the Omaha offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Principal Park. Matt Rice, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0.

Had Jonathan Manes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Manes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Cubs.

"Good teams find a way to win close games," Manes said.

The loss puts Omaha at 13-12.
