Storm Chasers Stumble, Lose 3-1 to Chihuahuas
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Southwest University park. But 24-year old first baseman Jason Meertens produced just enough offense to carry the Chihuahuas past the Omaha Storm Chasers, 3-1. Meertens was 2 for 2 with a double and 2 walks. El Paso reliever Arturo Robles snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Aaron Jernigan shouldered the loss. The victory gives El Paso a record of 20-19.
Luis Guzman chipped in a solo home run for El Paso in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
Meertens called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
