Storm Chasers Topple Rainiers, 5-3
|
Tacoma got a terrific game from designated hitter Michael Draper. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Omaha, 5-3. Draper was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Frank Rivera, the winner, goes to 3-3. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts over 7 innings. Omaha currently is in first place in the American Conference North Division at 23-18.
Julio Shifflett was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk for Omaha. With no one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Shifflett had a clutch at-bat. Facing Tacoma hurler Jonathan Dooley, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Storm Chasers a 4-3 lead.
Shifflett called the win "just what the doctor ordered."
