Mercer Boss as Columbus Beats Toledo, 1-0
|
The Columbus Clippers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Corey Mercer, who kept Toledo hitters in check en route to a 1-0 Clippers win at Fifth Third Field. Gabe Borges closed out the game, earning his 1st save. The loss lowers the Toledo record to 3-3.
Mercer earned the win to move to 1-1. In his 8-inning performance, he scattered 3 hits, striking out 11 and walking 4. The right-hander allowed the Mud Hens few scoring opportunities.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Mercer said.
