The inspired effort of Salt Lake first baseman Matt Barnes was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Sacramento River Cats. Barnes was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. The win went to Ivan Sandoval in relief, making him now 5-0. Joey Renner took the loss for Salt Lake. The second-place Bees now sit at 28-26.

Michael Earnest came through with a big-time hit for Sacramento. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Earnest told the Sacramento News.
