Iowa had no answer for 25-year old right-handed pitcher Tim Basile. The New Orleans Zephyrs starter stymied Cubs hitters, helping the Zephyrs cruise to victory, 8-1. Chad Wilson got the save, his 6th in 7 chances. The Cubs, at 53-60, have lost 4 straight games.

New Orleans third baseman John Ballard contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 51st hit of the season and put the Zephyrs ahead, 2-1.
