Morseth Perfect Against River Cats
|
So rare that it is more a figment of the imagination than an actual possibility for a professional ballplayer, the near-mythical perfect game became reality for John Morseth today.
The Fresno Grizzlies right-hander dominated the Sacramento River Cats at Chukchansi Park, securing the 6-0 Grizzlies victory and a place for himself in the history books.
"As a kid I imagined pitching a perfect game, but it was only a fairy tale -- I didn't really ever expect to pitch one," Morseth said later, sitting in the clubhouse with a crowd of reporters. "I don't want to demean it, but I've lost games where I had better stuff than I had today. It all just fell into place in this one."
The 24-year-old Morseth retired all 27 River Cats batters in a row. He surrendered no hits, walked none, struck out 9 and permitted no one to get on base.
This year Morseth has posted a record of 1 win and 8 losses with a 5.85 ERA. He has appeared in 13 games and struck out 62 in 72.1 innings.
