Storm Chasers Rally Late to Nip Dodgers
|
The Omaha Storm Chasers rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Justin Mendonca to a win, beating the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 3-2, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Andy Davis, who is tied for 4th in the AC in holds with 4, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 4-5. Omaha now has a record of 39-28 with the win.
Omaha used the timely hitting of Bobby Brancati to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Storm Chasers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"That's baseball," said Oklahoma City manager Vicente Gutierrez. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
