Kern Excels, El Paso Levels Reno
|
The El Paso Chihuahuas pounded the Reno Aces, 17-2, at Aces Ballpark. El Paso catcher Grant Kern had a game-changing performance. He was 4 for 5 with 4 singles and a walk, while scoring 5 runs. Danny Gonzalez, 3-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. The Chihuahuas go to 34-36, putting them last in the Pacific Conference South Division.
The Chihuahuas got a big hit from second baseman Ralph Katch. Facing Reno pitcher David Nickerson in the top of the sixth, Katch pounded a bases-clearing double to center. His 19th double of the season put the Chihuahuas ahead, 5-2.
"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Reno manager Jose Heredia. "They knocked us on our keisters."
