Chihuahuas Beat River Cats in 11
|
The Sacramento River Cats could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Pete Bettencourt into a win. Instead, the El Paso Chihuahuas prevailed, 4-3, in 11 innings. Bettencourt threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The second-place Chihuahuas now have a record of 40-40.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 22-year old second baseman Hunter Duke had a chance to be the hero. Sacramento pitcher Brandon Banks wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Duke hit a sacrifice fly. The Chihuahuas had themselves a thrilling win.
"The crowd was raucous," said Duke.
