VanAsselberg Slugs 3 Homers, River Cats Get 11-2 Win
|
Andy VanAsselberg was a major factor in the 11-2 Sacramento win over Albuquerque. The River Cats second baseman hit 3 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring three times. Sacramento reliever Chris Shaver picked up the win, raising his record to 5-0. Danny Hoyt was tagged with the loss. Sacramento, at 53-39, sits in first place in the Pacific Conference North Division.
With Sacramento leading 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth, VanAsselberg came up to bat against Albuquerque pitcher Victor Merritt. VanAsselberg hit a fastball to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 17th home run of the season put the River Cats on top, 10-2.
"Good hitting and good pitching is a lethal combination," said VanAsselberg.
