The Omaha Storm Chasers rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Jorge Gurule to a win, beating the Iowa Cubs, 5-1, at Werner Park. Gurule yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 8-10. The save was credited to George Bryan, his 2nd.

Josh McElwain had a big 2-run triple for the Storm Chasers in the bottom of the first inning. With Omaha leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jimmy Kaufmann, who is tied for 9th in the AC with a 1.22 WHIP, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Storm Chasers ahead, 3-0.

McElwain said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.

Today's win puts Omaha at 57-38, while Iowa falls to 49-46.
