Cheney Stadium was the site for Pacific Conference action featuring the Tacoma Rainiers and El Paso Chihuahuas.
Marco Ontiveros was a vital contributor to the 7-2 El Paso victory over Tacoma. The Chihuahuas left fielder went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Reliever Matt Zmuda picked up the win. His record improves to 4-3. Jim Calkins, who is tied for 7th in the PC in strikeouts with 110, took the loss.
El Paso used a well-timed hit by Kurt Jones to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Chihuahuas ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Ontiveros told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
El Paso is now 68-29.
