Rainiers Cut Down Chihuahuas, 5-3
|
The Tacoma Rainiers beat the El Paso Chihuahuas, 5-3, at Cheney Stadium. Daniel Silva, in particular, was impressive. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Inayat Ullah Clark earned the win for Tacoma. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 9. With the win, he raised his record to 4-5. The Rainiers sit in last place in the Pacific Conference North Division with a record of 36-62.
Ben Garves had a big 2-run home run for the Rainiers in the bottom of the first inning. With Tacoma leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from 31-year old right-handed pitcher John Cronin and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Rainiers on top, 5-0.
Silva told a Tacoma Times reporter that he was "very pleased" with the win.
