Darryl Shirey of the Toledo Mud Hens shut out the Norfolk Tides, 3-0, at Fifth Third Field, holding them to 4 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Pressed for comments on his club's defeat, Norfolk skipper Alfredo Rojas called the outing from Shirey "a jewel."

"The way Shirey was pitching, it would have been tough for anyone to beat him," he said.
