Tides Sneak By Clippers, 2-1
|
Columbus wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Doug Mehling, falling to the Norfolk Tides, 2-1. Mehling threw 7.2 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Mike Brown, now 2-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Norfolk now has a record of 8-4.
Norfolk used the timely hitting of Eliezer Frias to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tides on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Runs were at a premium," said Norfolk manager Manny Romero.
