New Orleans Zephyrs starter Maurice Johnson turned in an exceptional performance against the El Paso Chihuahuas at Zephyr Field, resulting in a New Orleans win, 4-2. Johnson got the win, improving to 8-4. He gave up 3 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Michael Swan earned the save for New Orleans, his 13th of the year.

New Orleans center fielder Eric Watts contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a sinker to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 75th hit of the season and put the Zephyrs ahead, 4-2.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said El Paso skipper Marvin Jimenez, "and it cost us."

Their 56-43 record puts the Zephyrs second in the American Conference South Division.
