Sky Sox Suffer 5-2 Loss to Chihuahuas
|
The El Paso Chihuahuas topped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 5-2, in Pacific Conference action at Southwest University park. The standout performance belonged to El Paso pitcher and Orlando, Florida, native Eric Owens. Owens picked up the win for El Paso, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-3. El Paso, at 50-53, occupies last place in the Pacific Conference South Division.
The Sky Sox had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Chihuahuas going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old second baseman Miguel Mondragon came to the plate. Mondragon hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 sinker from Colorado Springs hurler Kyle Brent. It was Mondragon's 12th home run of the year.
Owens called the win "good for the psyche of this team."
